about
I became interested in primates after reading about the Virunga Gorillas in the Congo that were being murdered senselessly. The expressiveness of the primates bodies and faces pulled me in, the one thing that kept showing itself to me is the resiliency of the life force in all living things despite hurt and obstacles. I then did numerous studies of these primates. I drew and painted the primates and came to a place that enabled me to connect with my own experiences. The resiliency of the heart is what the work engaged me to look at as it grew. I began to see how fragility and resiliency are intertwined and cannot exist without eachother. I realized my susceptibility to feeling vulnerable, specifically in matters of the heart, this has since grown into an exploration of universal physical delicacy.
The mediums played a role in this exploration as the surfaces reacted due to the materials I applied and became an intrinsic part of the work.
